I really appreciate your thoughts about signing off on social media. I'm thinking about doing it. Perhaps the recommended podcast will help me with going through with it. :)
Oh, Sara....it's been the best experience for me! I'm in a different season of life but I know from the cohortees in our course that age doesn't matter--we all found the same freedom.
A new season is starting soon--keep your eyes on Spotify!
I'm so glad you shared this with me on my note from yesterday! Much of this resonated as well.
I'm not a stranger to taking time away from Instagram -- in 2018 I took what I thought would be a short break and spent nine months away. Last year, a month long digital detox ended up lasting almost four months.
It's the coming back thinking it can be different that has ended up plaguing me most. Because every time I've come back it's an altogether *more* of what I'm not actually looking for and yet something about it keeps me hooked in (perhaps the intermittent positive reinforcement, duh).
I wanted to challenge myself to a year and already, as I mentioned, I'm considering a whole, blissful future without it entirely!
Shoot, I just wrote a comment, but guess it didn't save. Here's a 2nd attempt.
I just sent a link to this post to another friend. We've commiserated lately about this very topic. Social media and the whole notion of meeting others' notions of how to build platform is indeed draining--on many levels. I appreciate how you ended your post, "There is a better way." Amen to that. I'm going to forward a short post I received from Allen Arnold to you, "The Better Platform." You're both of the same heart and mind on this matter.
Carol, thank you for making a second attempt to comment. I think there are many many people feeling the same way and I appreciate you saying so. I will look for that post from Allen Arnold.
Hi Cheryl, thanks for your comment. Your photos are beautiful by the way.
I have been listening to a podcast called Writing off Social, and one of the things we are encouraged to do is to focus on quality content and not followers. I've been thinking about that a lot, and continue to refine what I'm sharing.
I noticed you said you had a blog before, and I think there's a way to bring your subscribers over to Substack. That might be something to have somebody help you with.
I love images so I loved Instagram. Then it changed and I am not fed like I used to be so I’m naturally there less and less. Every so often I see something inspiring.
Trying to find my way here with relationships but it’s hard to get followers to join the app and so far it’s brought me no new followers.
Connecting with humans matters. Yes, Jody. Excellent post.

Ah, Well, here is to a whole, blissful future without Instagram, and more rich, real conversations.

I miss the old Instagram and I'm thankful for you.
I miss it, too. And right back atcha! Thanks for reading, Natalie.

I so resonate with your journey...similar paths we are traveling, dear Jody!
I think we all long for authentic communication at our core, yes? Thank you for reading... It is good to be connected here.
