Thank you for this! Annie Dillard means so much to me as a writer. Her _Teaching a Stone to Talk_ and _Holy the Firm_ have been the most impactful for me.

After all, what's a heart for? This is gold and that's one of my favorite books by my favorite author. Pilgrim at Tinker Creek – "... I live for it, for the moment the mountains open and a new light roars in spate through the crack, and the mountains slam." What a perceptive soul.

The latest in Reading Wars here is Phonemic Awareness at the top of the Elementary Schools Strategy and Goals for ELA. Then at the bottom, "Lucy Calkins" survives for the goal of pleasure in reading.

Lucy Calkins' books and teaching approach were the cornerstone of my Elementary Ed teaching credential. So glad she's 'surviving' in Rochester, NY!
